“They (people impacted by cyclone Remal) are not asking for charity. The people who are at the frontline of climate change, they need very specific things; they need tools that can make their struggle against the climate crisis a bit easier”, said Asif Saleh, Executive Director of BRAC, during his visit to Mongla in southern Bangladesh after cyclone Remal.
Cyclone Remal impacted the lives of 4.6 million people across coastal Bangladesh. 35,000 houses have been fully destroyed. 115,000 houses have been partially damaged. Fisheries, livestock, and croplands have been washed away, affecting immediate and long-term livelihoods.
