Fake parking tickets have been cropping up on drivers windshields in both the US and UK, with scammers taking advantage of unsuspecting motorists.
In a recent discovery, a Reddit user found a counterfeit parking ticket supposedly issued by the San Francisco city government.
The parking ticket contains a QR code that is used to direct users to a URL shortener link, which has since been disabled.
This link was designed to redirect unsuspecting visitors to a fraudulent website that closely mimics the official San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency SFMTA website to deceive people into thinking it is legitimate.
To confirm a parking citation or legal notice, it's best to check the relevant government bodies official website.
You can look up tickets and citations there.
UK local governments, including Isle of White Council, have also been cautioning residents to beware of QR codes.
They find that may be disguised as quick pay a parking meter option.
