Hari Om!
People behave in a demonic way because of wrong understanding. Summarising the travails of people with āsuric sampat, Swami Aparajitananda continues the discussion.
The purpose of this study is to examine ourselves; not to fall into the trap of āsuric sampat and to cultivate daivi sampat. Swamiji contrasts the traits of an āsuric sampat person with those of Karma Yogi and persons with daivi sampat to drive home the point.
Verse 12:
• Tied firmly by the hundreds of ropes of hopes, aspirations and desires, a person with āsuric sampat functions for an uncertain karma phala, money being one of his central goals of life. Uncertainty gives rise to worry and anxiety.
• This āsuric sampat person has taken refuge in kāma (because it gives him pleasure) and krodha (because he considers it a virtue and a weapon).
• Ego requires a lot of money to maintain itself. Many examples are given to show what āsuric sampat can do to you.
• The present education system is contrasted to the education system during Vedic times.
• Swamiji emphasises inculcating of values at an early age giving example of Japan and on revamping of education system. He stresses giving importance to scriptures atleast in our homes, until the education system also does it.
Verses 13 to 15: How does a person with āsuric sampat think?
• He thinks about himself - "I am the Lord, I will enjoy everything, I am the most successful, strong, happy person." and is always too full of himself.
• Craves for more and more all the time. A daivi sampat person is content in the knowledge that God provides everything which he needs; if he does not have anything means he does not need it.
• Earning wealth is not criticised; owning wealth is.
Verse 16:
• End result of an āsuric person is in hell.
(to be contd.)
