These 2 receipts were written by Susannah Carter and are from one of my favorite period cookbooks the 1765 book The Frugal Housewife. Not to be confused with another recipet book published by the same name, but with a different author later on in the 1829. I use the 1803 American edition, which has an appendix.
This book influenced the first cook book by an American author, Amelia Simmons's American Cookery (1796), so much so that some of the receipts from The Frugal Housewife were copied word for word to be put into American Cookery.
