Hello I'm Joan and this book is called Dark Towers, Deutsche Bank, Donald Trump, and an epic trail of destruction by David Enrich and it truly is an epic tale of destruction. Occasionally a narrative non fiction book comes along with which I fall completely in love and this is one of those stories. It's the story of Deutsche Bank who started life as a very conservative bank in Germany. Although they did manage to help the Nazis fund the building of Auschwitz. But they went on to expand into the West. They bought companies in both the UK and the USA and at the same time as they acquired those companies they seem to have acquired some of the avarice that western financiers are famous for. They did an enormous amount of money laundering in Russia. They defied international sanctions to do business with Iran at the time when nobody was meant to. And the lack of accountability, the lack of systems, the lack of ethics, the complete absence of morals within Deutsche Bank in the wider context of the world was simply astonishing. Then in order to get the foothold that they wanted in America they decided that the best way was to do business with Donald Trump because no other bank would touch him and you might imagine where this story goes from here. It is an extraordinary book about stuff that I believe is all one hundred percent real and verified and it's completely compelling.
