Unboxing and review of the new Stowa Classic 36 Flieger watch with manual wind. Movement is the ETA 2804 with top-end finish consisting of blued screws and other niceties.
This is a great German pilot's watch from one of the original five manufacturers that supplied flieger timepieces to the German military in World War II. Along with Stowa, Wempe, Laco, A. Lange and Sohne, and IWC were also contracted vendors for this service.
The Classic Flieger 36 is a great size for an understated appearance that can be worn under cuffs and with a jacket. The manual wind movement also keeps the case thickness to a minimum, while the sapphire crystal front and back proudly display the blued hands on the dial and workhouse ETA movement on the reverse side.
These are terrific watches from a company located in the Black Forest of Germany with honest military history and actual horology -- unlike the made-up traditions and horology of many other watch companies and startups. Own a real slice of history with an homage piece from Stowa. Prices range from $700-2500 depending on model, style, movement, and accessories.
