JMI Nanoscience Professor wins National Power Lifting Championship Dr Aurangzeb Khurram Hafiz, Associate Professor at Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Jamia Millia Islamia( JMI) has won the National Classic Powerlifting Championship 2019 in the Open Category 120 kg body weight class held at Idukki, Kerala recently.
Dr Aurangzeb lifted a total of 740 kg weight while the runner-up contestant lifted only 685 kg. While securing the first position, Dr Aurangzeb created three national records in squat, deadlift and total score surpassing his own records created in 2013 at Mangalore.
Elated at his performance Dr Aurangzeb who is basically a nano technology scientist said that weightlifting has been his passion since childhood and his motto is “ Helathy body, healthy mind.” One should have a balance between mind and body to keep himself healthy. In June this year he had won National Masters Power Lifting championship in 120 kg category held in Gudiyatham, Tamil Nadu.
Dr Aurangzeb had earlier won one gold and 3 silver medals in different categories in Asian Championship held in Aleppi, Kerala in 2017. On the academic front Dr Aurangzeb has 60 international publications on his name and has been guide to 7 PhD scholars.
