A woman is shot and critically injured after she tried to fight off a robber during a home invasion, police say.
The search is on for two men who forced their way into the home. Police say they are searching for potential suspects but haven't made any arrests.
Two people were at the residence when the home invasion happened shortly after 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Captain Doug Jones with Hendersonville Police says the two robbers forced their way into the house owned by Michel Peak on White Sparrow Drive in the Green Meadows neighborhood.
Peak's friend, Lateshia Clayton, 33, was visiting him at the time. Peak's family members say one of the robbers hit him on the head with a gun, knocking him to the floor.
"One of them took the young lady out in the yard, and a struggle occurred, ensued between her and one of the captors, and she was shot in the head," Capt. Jones said.
Capt. Jones says Clayton is in critical condition at Mission Hospital.
Family members say Peak did not know the robbers. They say after the shooting, the robbers left without taking anything.
Peak declined treatment Saturday afternoon.
The incident happened across the street from the middle school and teen centers at the Boys and Girls club. No one was in the buildings at the time of the shooting.
Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 828-697-7867.
