The annual EMS Week campaign, which recognizes the professionals who provide emergency medical services in communities across the country, takes place May 15th through 21st this year.
“This is the 47th annual celebration of EMS Week, where we honor our frontline heroes, dedicated to providing emergency medicine that saves so many lives every day,” said Gillian Schmitz, MD, FACEP, President of the American College of Emergency Physicians. “The theme of ‘Rising to the Challenge’ is particularly meaningful as it reminds our nation that EMS professionals are faced with so many challenges today and they still rise above them. Through it all, EMS continues to respond, support and care for the needs of our communities.”
The EMS Week campaign supports and strengthens the EMS community by honoring accomplishments and increasing awareness of the critical role of EMS. Resources for promoting and celebrating EMS Week and inspiring stories about EMS professionals can be found on www.emsweek.org
“EMS Week is a time to recognize how our nation’s paramedics and EMTs have risen to the challenge time and time again in response to the needs of our patients and our communities,” Bruce Evans, MPA, CFO, NRP, SPO, President of the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians.
“We show up every day despite personal risk, hardship and inadequate resources. The extraordinary environment in which we’ve operated during the past two years showcases our resilience, our dedication and our readiness.”
Anytime someone has an emergency and calls 911, there are a number of highly trained professionals who respond and arrive to deliver excellent emergency medical care. EMS professionals are extraordinary men and women who make a difference every day. In life-threatening emergencies, they save lives. They are the ones, who regardless of the situation, are there to offer the best care when we need someone the most.
Authorized in 1974 by President Gerald Ford, this year, National EMS Week is celebrated May 15-21, 2022. EMS Week is a way to pay tribute to EMS practitioners and professionals who selflessly dedicate their professional lives responding to emergency calls and saving lives. During this time, we celebrate the EMTs and Paramedics who selflessly put forth so much effort to take care of their communities. We are extremely grateful for all of the efforts they put forth every day to keep our community safe and healthy.
Despite their importance, EMTs and Paramedics are some of the most overlooked members of the healthcare team. While doctors and nurses are the most visible and well-known medical professionals, paramedics aren’t in the spotlight and often their important roles and contributions are more easily taken for granted.
To those of you who serve in the profession, we know your job is stressful and labor intensive more now than ever before. Your commitment to your job is truly extraordinary. The courage, dedication, and professionalism you display and the loyalty you not only show to your job, but to the people you serve here in Pope County and in the River Valley is truly appreciated. The care that you provide to your patients can truly be the difference between life and death. Keep up the positive energy and enthusiasm and be proud of the work you do. There is no higher calling than one of service to others. You are greatly appreciated.
On behalf of River Valley Now and many others in the River Valley, thank you for showing up on our worst days and being there when we need you the most. We are extremely grateful. Please stay safe, stay healthy and take care of one other.
