The iconic rock star Freddie Mercury was born and grew up on the island of Zanzibar, in what is now Tanzania. He was born Farrokh Bulsara in 1946 and left with his family in 1963 at the onset of the Zanzibar Revolution. He didn't speak much publicly about Zanzibar.
If you are in Zanzibar, make sure to visit the Freddie Mercury House and Museum in Stone Town. While not a whole representation of his life, it’s a place to honor the late performer.
