A two week design sketch competition followed by a four week design fabrication for the Carnegie Museum of Art's Material Worlds Fashion Show held at Ace Hotel, Pittsburgh PA on March 24th, 2017. These designs, by Rachel Muse, were inspired by the work of Iris Van Herpen and the natural material of wood, utilizing steam bending and laser cutting techniques to enhance the inherent structural and sculptural nature of the wood. Steam and Smoke are processes to tame and tease wood, twisting its nature and contrasting its beauty against dark matter.
