내일부터 얀센 접종자 부스터샷 본격화… 신규확진 2천224명, 닷새 연속 2천명대
With most of the country now vaccinated, South Korea is rolling out more booster shots.
From tomorrow, they'll start for people who originally got the Janssen vaccine.
New cases of the virus continue to number in the two-thousands.
Our Han Seong-woo has the details.
Close to 80 percent of South Korea's population is now fully vaccinated, and starting Monday, booster shots will be given to people who got the Janssen vaccine.
Compared to people who received other jabs, Janssen recipients have been found to be more prone to breakthrough infections.
They'll be getting a dose of the mRNA vaccines from Pfizer or Moderna.
But for those over 30, another dose of Janssen is also an option.
To be eligible, it has to have been at least two months since the original Janssen shot.
Later in the week, boosters will start for residents and staff at nursing homes.
This group, some five-hundred thousand people, will get either Pfizer or Moderna... beginning Wednesday.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, the country reported another two-thousand-224 cases of COVID-19 that's five straight days in the two thousands.
All but twenty of them were locally transmitted, with three fourths of all the new cases occuring in Seoul and the surrounding area.
Currently, the number of people who are severely ill is at 405.
With social distancing measures dramatically eased now, the government has ordered hospitals in the capital region to secure more beds in case there's a surge in infections in the coming weeks.
