LSU/LBRN BIOMMED Virtual Summer Training Programs are designed to address the pressing needs of students, faculty, and researchers to deal with growing amounts of high throughput data generated in life sciences. With a focus on accessibility, hands-on practice, and project-driven design, these training modules will help you get started and grow in biomedical informatics, bioinformatics & related -omics fields.

OmicsLogic Introduction to Bioinformatics

The objective of this program is to introduce topics and examples to help participants understand Omics data and the use of bioinformatics in life science research. As a result of this training, you will learn about Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data analysis. This includes processing and preparing data for analysis in application to Genomics, Transcriptomics, and Metagenomics.

Why Next Generation Sequencing? With the decreasing cost of NGS and the increasingly broad range of applications, this technology has transformed biomedical research.

OmicsLogic Data Science

The training is designed as a combination of online resources, practical assignments, and live workshops that will be conducted via ZOOM.

Throughout the course, we will review several project examples that demonstrate the successes and limitations of conventional machine learning (ML) methods and deep learning (DL) using data from public repositories.
