Kevin O'Sullivan has Russell Quirk on Talk to cover the subject of Free Speech in the United Kingdom.
Kevin reports that there was a proposed law waiting to be signed that would have enshrined Freedom of Speech in UK universities. However, when Labour came into government, the new education secretary Bridget Phillipson put the signing of this law on ice.
Both Kevin and Russell are disturbed by this. Kevin asks "why would they not want free speech on campuses?" and Russell responds simply that "they don't believe in free speech" and calls the move Orwellian.
