A couple years ago, the answer to the question of “who is Master Peace” was: “a grime rapper.” Giants like Skepta and JME supported the upcoming South London MC, and he fit nicely into the grime scene. But a natural curiosity helped this cool cat with his music’s breadth. Now incorporating alt-rock and dreamy indie pop sensibilities, MP’s work has recently become a truer reflection of his overall tastes; he frequently lists Bastille, Arctic Monkeys, and Bloc Party as influences. “I’m trying to do it for people that don’t fit in,” says the “Eyes On You” singer. Fruitful collabs with SG Lewis (“Chemicals,” which is Peace’s most-streamed track to date) and No Rome & MISOGI (“Heart Chained”) have introduced him to a crowd of new listeners. His ‘Public Display of Affection’ EP has just arrived, and that’ll be the further intro for lots of folks. Our DSCVR spotlight will certainly help as well. “PDA” and “Boyfriend” sound as good in the studio as they do on Peace’s sharp new record.
