#Kumpo masked dance is a traditional African dance in parts of Senegal (south) and The Gambia. A Kumpo is a mythical figure of the Jola people of Gambia and Senegal.
A ‘Kumpo’ (Koumpo) is the centre of the action at a village celebration. A person is dressed in palm leaves and has a stick pointing out of the top of his head and he dances! Almost looking like a haystack.

Kumpo is a protective spirit of the #Jola people of the #Senegambian region of #West #Africa, the energetic Kumpo performance is the center-piece of the whole event.
At the climax of the dancing the Kumpo spins around and around to put out a fire.
The Kumpo actually represents a sweeping broom so it is also sometime called as broom creature dance of Africa.
In African mythology, The Kumpo is believed to sweep away all the evil spirits and allows things to continue as normal.
