Lecture by Thomas D. Stroka at the 5th International Conference on Traditional Building, Architecture, and Urbanism, held in Úbeda, Jaén, on November 15, 16, and 17, 2024.
"Bedford Limestone or Salem Limestone, commonly known as Indiana limestone, has been used in building construction for two centuries in the United States. A sedimentary stone, it is a natural calcite-cemented calcareous stone from fossilized skeletal material in a shallow seabed formed 300 million years ago. This lecture discusses the material properties of Indiana limestone and its use in Classical architecture today".
The Conference was organized by the Traditional Building Cultures Foundation in collaboration with the Úbeda City Council, INTBAU Spain, INTBAU Portugal, the Fundação Serra Henriques, the Casa Ducal de Medinaceli Foundation, the Úbeda Artisans Association, the Huerta de San Antonio Foundation, the Casa de Las Torres School of Arts, and the Renaissance Studies Center of Úbeda.
