I was watching this stag from first light although he had been active and covered twice, he was sat down amongst the heard when I noticed a smaller stag (2 atop) running up the valley in his general direction. This stag was quickly joined by several ‘prickets’ I counted 6. This group then ‘mobbed’ the dominant stag (a monarch) from different directions attempting to ‘steal’ some of the hinds. None of them were big enough to challenge him but they gave him the run about for some time creating pandemonium in the process. Just a little to far away for stills and the light wasn’t great, so I shot a little video clip as well. I’m testing a Rode Mic, but I’ve not got it quite right yet. I don’t normally shoot much video as I have never really studied it. My apprenticeship many years ago was entirely stills photography.
