I am out in the garden starting seeds in seedling trays and discussing why i believe it is a mistake to add egg shells directly to your garden. Plants need inorganic material that is water soluble to be able to take it up through the roots. Egg shells are in an organic state and are not water soluble to be readily available for the plants. We can’t determine how long it will take to the egg shells to turn into a water soluble form, or if it will ever be made available to our garden in that given year.
Plants need calcium. They need it available now. Egg shells simply do not meet the needs of the plants in our garden.
