Olympic champion Katie Archibald has revealed the moment paramedics tried to save her partner before he died in bed next to her - and her guilt at offering him a glass of water when he woke up gasping for air.
Fellow cyclist Rab Wardell tragically died at the age of just 37 last August after he suffered a cardiac arrest at their home in Glasgow.
Archibald initially didn't realise the severity of his condition when she first woke up, instinctively thinking he just needed a drink. But as the horrifying reality then dawned on her, she frantically called the emergency services, who, despite a rapid arrival time of less than 10 minutes, couldn't save him.
Now, the grief-stricken star has spoken out about the tragedy for the first time, telling the story in harrowing detail.
