DESCRIPTION -- AFRICAN CROSS BORDER TRUCKER -- DOCUMENTARY
FROM CAPE TOWN TO THE ANGOLA BORDER.
DAY 1 The fruit was loaded at the Norham Fruit farms Grabow during the late afternoon. I drove in the night to Bitterfontein on the N7 via Somerset West and Bellville. I had to collect the border documentation at Bellville.
DAY 2 is mostly "Border Crossing Day" and early full nights rest! The border opens for trucks at 06H00 but there are lots of trucks and I plan to go through from 10H00. 4 to 5 Hours to cross as you exit South Africa at Vioolsdrif and enter Namibia at Noordoewer. SAD500 Documentation and Agri inspections and such takes time. Keetmanshoop is approximately the halfway mark and the ideal area to get a "full nights rest"!
DAY 3, this is the long haul from Keetmans to the destination, Oshikango at the Angola border. On this day I passed Mariental, Windhoek, Okahandja, and night fall is usually near Otjiwarongo. At this point you'll notice that the video was made on the return trip as I drove those sections in the night. I placed them chronological order but for those that know the area, those are in "reverse" and you will also notice the truck is empty. Its normal timing to reach the destination after midnight and on the morning of day 4, the load is off-loaded. That means from loading in the late afternoon on day 1 till off-loading in the morning of day 4, the fruit was transported in approximately 48 hours including a border crossing and a "full nights rest"! Making any sense?
THE VIDEO DETAIL: It is long and therefore might buffer on a slow connection. The video was made with a Sony camera with a cd and the output files was VOB files. To edit the movie, I converted all the VOB files to WMV 720 x 480 files. The video was then was a WMV 720x480 of 166 Meg. There were black sidebars and to get the video in full viewer there are two options. OPTION 1 is to convert to MP4 HD 848x480, very good quality picture and the final file is 356 Meg and will take 4 hours to upload. OPTION 2 is to convert to MP4 Normal 1280 x 720, not so good quality, but the file output is 115 meg and much easier to upload on Youtube.
