The second reason for penile curvature is Peyronie's disease, an inflammation of the fibrous structure surrounding the cavernous bodies of the penis. The cause of this disease is unknown, but factors such as genetics, trauma, and diabetes may contribute. Buntrock mentions that this condition is underreported, possibly due to men feeling ashamed to seek medical help. Peyronie's disease can sometimes manifest suddenly without warning signs, but painful erections at night may indicate a problem.
