It was a pleasure to have Paul Coleman, a permaculturist, organic architect, storyteller, author, tree planter and soil regenerator - join Farmer's Footprint for a Farmside Chat. He's commonly known as the earthwalker, having walked almost 50,000 kilometers (nearly 31,000 miles!) through 39 nations planting trees and spreading his environmentally progressive message.
Currently, he lives with his wife Konomi Kikuchi in Patagonian Chile, where they are creating a sustainable lifestyle and sharing their learnings with a global community. They built their home with their own hands using ancient technologies and modern ideas to have minimum impact on the natural environment and utilize the natural resources available from their land and the immediate vicinity. They completely shifted the ecosystem of their small piece of hill side pasture from an eroded, nearly lifeless dirt patch to a thriving food forest by planting 1,500 native trees and over 100 fruit trees.
Paul is also the founder of The Austral Garden Route, a cooperative in Chilean Patagonia that aims to advance the biodiversity of the region, connect tourists with the community, and strengthen the local economy through workshops on ways to live sustainably and generate an income.
