This module on green economy was delivered in 2019 Africa regional ministirial conference on green economy by Dr.Hussein Abaza, Green Investment Advisor, World Green Economy Organization.

The module on Green Investment Promotion will look into different aspects for promoting green investment, opportunities and the latest trends in green investments, potential sources of funding and the enabling and policy measures needed to facilitate and encourage green investment. It will also highlight the potential that sector-based green investment can potentially offer on the economic, social and environmental fronts.

Transitioning to a green economy offers an opportunity for addressing these challenges and shifting onto a sustainable development path. Such a shift does not only contribute to revitalizing economies, but it also helps creating new employment opportunities, and providing good business opportunities for the private sector.

While there is a broad consensus among the different stakeholders on the importance of green investments, how to actually encourage and stimulate investment in green sectors and innovative environmentally-friendly green technologies is something that needs to be clearly defined and articulated. Creating a favorable environment for investment in green sectors and technologies is critical in determining the pace at which countries will be able to transition to a green economy that enables countries achieve the sustainable development goals and follow a sustainable development path.
