Ramsay MacDonald, was a first. He wasn't Scotland's first Prime Minister, but he was the first Labour Prime Minister of the first Labour Government. Scottish history tour guide Bruce Fummey tells of how a boy born illegitimate and poor in a north east Scottish fishing village grew up to become the Prime Minister in the first Labour government of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

How James, the young son of Anne Ramsay, grew up to become Prime Minister Ramsay MacDonald would be incredible today. It seems even more unlikely in Victorian Britain and is certainly one of the great tales from Scotland's history. The Labour Party didn't even exist at the time of his birth in Lossiemouth.
