As Pakistan prepares for upcoming general elections later this year, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has officially nominated former prime minister Nawaz Sharif as its candidate for the position of prime minister.
Shehbaz Sharif, the party's president, announced the nomination during a press briefing, highlighting that recent amendments to the Election Act have removed any disqualification barriers for Nawaz Sharif's candidacy.
Shehbaz Sharif affirmed that the decision on the election date lies with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and expressed the party's eagerness to hold the polls expeditiously.
PML-N leader Ishaq Dar further noted that Nawaz Sharif's disqualification period concluded on July 26.
The former premier himself confirmed plans to return to Pakistan in September and address his pending court cases, with discussions to be held with his brother upon the formation of the caretaker government.
