STORYLINE:
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday welcomed Morocco's King Mohammed the Sixth to the Kremlin, saying the monarch's visit would open new prospects for bilateral cooperation.
The king, who arrived for an official visit late on Monday, last visited Moscow as a young crown prince for the 1982
funeral of Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev.
The king's talks with Russian officials were expected to focus on Iraq, the Middle East and efforts to improve
Russian-Moroccan ties.
The Interfax news agency cited unidentified Russian diplomats as saying the two countries share the view that
force must not be used against Iraq without authorisation from the UN Security Council.
Morocco is Russia's largest trading partner in Africa after Egypt, with bilateral trade reaching 379 and a half (M) million US dollars last year, the Russian foreign ministry said.
The king is to leave on Thursday for Kuwait.
