On May 4th, 2007 the whole town of Greensburg Kansas was wiped off the map by a MASSIVE Tornado.

When I traveled through town a few weeks ago, I visited with Bob Dixon, the Mayor of Greensburg. This is a short portion of the interview, with more coming soon...

Greensburg became "Green" in the rebuild process from very early on, within the first week after the tornado. It all started with a conversation between the Mayor and the Kansas Governor's office. "Going green" was a result of deciding to rebuild in a prudent and responsible manner, as their ancestors did for them years ago.

You can talk "green initiatives" all you want, but that's only part of the equation. They made a choice to rebuild their town in a "sustainable" manner, that would last for lifetimes.

The green initiative Greensburg Kansas decided to tackle in the rebuild process, wasn't political, it wasn't about "peace n' love", it wasn't about being a hippy.

They took the knowledge of many and implemented a "green" town that rural America could be proud of and associate with. They done away with old technologies that didn't serve the community, and installed new ones that will propel Greensburg Kansas into distant future.

Bob explains how our ancestors were really teaching us what we need to know about Sustainability....only now, we have modern technology to leverage our past experiences. Married together, we Greensburg has a bright and sustainable future.
