In this free video tutorial, brought to you with the support of Waves, we show you a super simple way of applying a vintage character and tone to your lead vocal tracks using Waves The King’s Microphones plug-in. I’ve always felt that this plug-in was a bit of an afterthought, the ugly duckling within Waves plug-in range as it always seems to sound too aggressive. As an insert on a vocal The King’s Microphones somehow either sort of worked or would be not fitting to the application, however, if we set this up in parallel the usefulness of this unloved plug-in starts to become very apparent.
In this video we apply some edge and character to a lead vocal in a blues acoustic track. We keep a portion of the original lead vocal signal in the mix while blending in the aggressive tones of The King’s Microphones to get some amazing subtle differences in presentation and vibe. Watch the video to learn how to set this up and to hear it in action.
