SAMPLING INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Collect samples at entry points to the distribution system (EPTDS) If your sampling point has a faucet with an aerator, it must be removed prior to collection of the samples.
2. Flush the cold water sampling line approximately 10-15 minutes prior to sampling.
3. Do not touch the inside of the cap or around the edge of the bottle.
4. Slow the water stream before collection.
5. Remove the cap. Fill the sample bottle to the NECK, replace the cap and TIGHTEN. Do not flush
away the preservatives and make sure that the mouth of the bottle does not come into contact with
anything other than the sample water. Do not overfill the bottle.
6. Indicate the sampling date, time, and site on both the bottle labels and the enclosed Chain of Custody (COC). Information on the COC and the labels must match and be complete.
Collect Field Reagent Blanks (FRB)
• Open the Unpreserved Reagent Water bottle (blue label) and pour it into the pre-preserved FRB bottle (blue label). Do not flush away the preservatives. Do not overfill the bottle.
• Replace the cap and TIGHTEN. Pour the “Reagent Water” into the empty FRB bottle.
SHIPPING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Place the provided liner bag in the cooler. Place the sample and FRB bottles into the liner bag.
2. Put wet ice around the bottles and then more wet ice on the top of the bottles to fill the cooler almost to the top. Frozen gel packs (i.e., blue ice or synthetic ice) may be used.
3. Gather the liner bag, twist tight, and tuck it to the side. Place a layer of bubble wrap across the top to keep bottles and wet ice in place.
4. Put the COC in a sealed plastic bag on top of the bubble wrap. Close the cooler and seal it with tape.
5. Return the cooler to the laboratory immediately after
collection. Sample bottles must be hand delivered or
sent by an overnight courier.
