Bangladesh's Yunus Govt Orders Removal of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's Image from Banknotes: Report
Bangladesh is set to remove the image of "Bangabandhu" Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the country’s founding father, from its currency notes, according to reports. The decision follows an order from the interim government that took power in August after the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Bangladesh Bank is reportedly printing new "Taka" notes, featuring images from July's student protests that led to Hasina’s ouster. The protests, which led to Hasina’s resignation, have raised tensions in the country, with reported attacks on minority groups, including Hindus. A recent arrest of a Hindu monk has also soured relations between Bangladesh and India. On December 5, Bangladesh's interim government recalled two senior diplomats from India following protests in West Bengal and Tripura.
