SS United States VR Tour 2024 - 4K 360° 3D Video

The planned $1 million sale of the historic ocean liner SS United States to Okaloosa County, Florida, has hit a major snag, forcing all parties back to negotiations as a critical deadline approaches. The SS United States Conservancy, responsible for preserving the ship, faces intense pressure to find a new location. A federal court has ordered the vessel's relocation from Philadelphia by September 12th, leaving little time to resolve issues.

The deal encountered difficulties when Okaloosa County faced complications with Penn Warehousing, the ship's dock landlord, jeopardizing the county's plans to acquire the 1,000-foot liner. Initially, the county planned to vote on repurposing the ship as an artificial reef off the Gulf Coast, but the future of the project is now uncertain.

Okaloosa County spokesperson Nick Tomecek stated that the county is revisiting its agreement with the Conservancy, with the original deadline of October 4th for towing arrangements now in question. Despite the setback, the county is working to salvage the deal, though it's unclear if a resolution will be reached before the county board's next meeting on September 17th.
