Philip II of Macedon organized the celebration of the weddings of Cleopatra's daughter with the Molossian King, Alexander I, at the Aigai Theater.
According to Diodorus, in a demonstration of power, Philip II of Macedon made his entry into the theater without his guard. But then he was murdered by one of his most trusted bodyguards, Pausanias. Pausanias was killed a few minutes later by his persecutors.
The reasons and moral instigators of the assassination of Philip II of Macedonia were not known. It seems, however, that he had collaborators, which turns suspicions either to the Persians who wanted to prevent the invasion of their state or to the Olympiad, which felt humiliated because Philip II of Macedonia had separated her for a younger and niece of general Attalos.
But they could have been internal opponents of Philip II of Macedonia, even Alexander himself, who personally wanted the glory to lead the campaign against the Persians.
