Synopsis: The music video, shot by Lewis & Clark senior Renee d’espyne, which features local Portland rap artist KayelaJ, is a fine example of one who is secure within their sexuality. The gritty, base filled instrumental, produced by local artist C Los, along with the lyrical content shows that she is bold and confident within her queerness. The lyrical content, written entirely by KayelaJ, insinuates that she is a proud member of the LGBTQ community. In fact, KayelaJ is one of few in the Hip Hop scene who is open with their sexuality along with local artist The Last Artful, Dodgr and mainstream artist Young M.A. The visuals in the music video was a collaborative effort between, Renee d’espyne, KayelaJ, and local stylist Bkaye. The concept was created by KayelaJ who collaborated with Bkaye to create the set, color themes, and clothing style. The concept for the video embodies the idea that KayelaJ’s queer language which in the past may have only been said in a private place, such as her bedroom, she now feels confident enough to say in the outside world. The rowdy, high intensity tones in KayelaJ’s voice and gestures, the scenes in which she dances and exerts burst of aggression, all say that she is strong, bold, confident, fearless, and secure within her sexuality. This is KayelaJ’s very first single and if you’ve enjoyed it you can stream it on all popular platforms some of which include:
