The Maha Vikas Aghadi, led by the Shiv Sena, and the BJP square off once again in today's parliamentary council elections in Maharashtra. Given that the BJP beaten the ruling coalition in the most recent Rajya Sabha elections, the elections have turned into a prestige contest. Ten seats are up for election, and the Maha Vikas Aghadi and its allied forces are fielding two each. The BJP has put forth five candidates. The MLA elections are more challenging because MLAs must cast secret ballots. The legislative council elections would be done in private, in contrast to the Rajya Sabha elections, which earlier required MLAs to show their ballot papers to their respective parties after casting their votes.
