In his introductory talk for the Psykedeelinäkymiä 2017 symposium, psychologist, mental health researcher and president of The Finnish Association for Psychedelic Research (Psyty ry) Samuli Kangaslampi talks about the growing amount of multidisciplinary research on psychedelic drugs. He also touches on the implications of the field to our understanding of the brain and the mind, and the media exposure received by the topic.

Kangaslampi gives a brief overview of Psyty ry and emphasizes the importance of public commentators that are well-versed in the most up-to-date research findings on psychedelics. He also introduces a contest for bachelor's or master's theses on psychedelics conducted in Finnish institutions of higher education.
