This montage is highlighting certain points for futsal goalkeepers and coaches, rather than a all guns blazing montage or amazing Brazilian or Spainish futsal goalkeepers doing great saves and complex drills!, this offers an alternative look at the first steps into futsal specific goalkeeping. Looking online there is very little on the coverage of basic futsal goalkeeping, I thought it would be a good idea to share the goalkeepers from New Zealand's and my experiences.
The majority of these young amateur goalkeepers you will see in this montage have had no formal futsal goalkeeper coaching and very limited experience and knowledge of playing futsal. (be kind to them in the comments). They showed great attitude, a willingness to learn and an aptitude to develop, a real pleasure to work with. :)
I spent 3 x 90 minute workshop style sessions during the course of a weekend showing a breakdown of futsal specific movements at its most simplistic level and building them into sequence. We soley looked at saving low shots with the splits style save and with the feet using points of contact thoery. We looked at the blocking shape, timing the block, alternating the block shape and blocking at the far post too.
These techniques require very unqiue body postions which is why its important to understand each technique movement by movement to get it right. This can also be used as a point of reference for the goalkeeper to do a self check if part of there game is not quite working. (check out 4.51 with the 12 year old goalkeeper, didnt quite perform the splits on a shot, with a simple re-check of a movement the young goalkeeper re-corrected himself for the next shot).
The aim -
To give the goalkeepers an understanding of the correct and appropriate technique of saving/ blocking a shot (reinforce technique)
Less impact injuries from needless 11 a side style diving, thus the goalkeeper remains on their feet ready for rebounds or setting-up a counter attack.
and
To give the goalkeeper a game plan for matches that is simple and affective to execute.
I think the goalkeepers on show would admit they are far from the finished article and there is many many more things to work on, we never looked at sliding (not diving), profile set-up, distribution both throwing and passing, saving high shots etc, however in the short period of time we worked together, by looking at the the footage im sure you would agree that there was very positive and encouraging signs of development, real progress was made.
Im impressed at how quick the goalkeepers picked up the techniques both on a practical level and on theoretical level which is a great acheivment, a testament to the goalkeepers passion to learn this great game of futsal.
Very much looking forward to taking this set of dedicated people on to the next stage or there journey, a big thank you to all the goalkeepers from New Zealand who took part.
I hope you like the clips.
