The Tanatap Ring Garden Café is a prototype of a multi-leveled greenspace, featuring dynamic platforms that create a walkable roofscape and connected floating amphitheaters, providing a refreshing and sustainable civic space in developing-country cities like Jakarta.
RAD+ar architects employed innovative strategies, such as connecting existing trees for visitor circulation, creating contrasting experiences in scale and nature density, and experimenting with undefined furniture to redefine visitor behavior and their sense of comfort within the café's integrated natural setting.
Blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces, the Ring Garden Café offers visitors a transitional experience, inviting them into a tropical oasis through a pathway bridge, concealed doors, and a concentric layout leading to a spacious multi-leveled garden. The glass block envelope, integrating lightness and privacy, symbolizes the harmonious blend of a building and a garden, and serves as a sustainable model inspired by the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
