Thousands of displaced people in Congo are receiving much needed aid after escaping new violence between government troops and rebels in the eastern part of the country.
SOT Michel Mudinga Aid Worker Which has seen so many people displaced about 250,000 people who have been displaced through this war. And some of the people are in camps; others are living with host families, like where we are now."
About 3,000 people have found shelter in this camp. Many lined up Monday to receive blankets and soap, part of the first aid they've received since fleeing their homes.
Meanwhile, there could be progress toward peace. At the United Nations in New York, the U.N.'s envoy to Congo says the rebel leader wants to sit down with the government to discuss their differences.
SOT The government of Democratic Republic of Congo is not averse to such a dialogue."
So far -- the government has refused to negotiate directly with the rebels.
