Haiti’s Prime Minister Ariel Henry has tendered his resignation following weeks of pressure and violence in the impoverished country.

The 74-year-old announced his resignation on Monday following an emergency meeting of regional nations in Jamaica.

Mr Henry is currently stranded in the United States territory of Puerto Rico as armed gangs prevent him from returning home.

A senior US official said he was free to remain there or travel elsewhere, thought security in Haiti would need to improve.
