Welcome to the Banff Gondola by acuri.net. An 8-minute ride from 2,267 feet above sea level in Banff to the top of Sulphur Mountain at 8,941 feet. The indigenous people, the Stoney Nakoda called it Spiritual Mountain and no wonder for the sights and medicinal plants they found on top. Europeans first climbed the mountain trail in 1896. The gondola was opened to the public in 1959. Swiss technology was used to construct the gondola. It was the first bi-cable carrier and first of its kind in Canada. The Banff Upper Hot Springs attraction was also the place where the three-mile trail was cut to the top. A portion of the program uses educational clips from the summit theatre and kiosks. We hope you enjoy the ride and the scenery.
