What is the Friction Circle? The Friction Circle displays plotted Longitudinal and Lateral G Forces on an X, Y graph. The result is a chart that shows the accelerations you achieved over the course of the lap. The outside edge of the Friction Circle (also referred to as GG Plot) shows your peak combined G. A "D" shaped GG Plot shows that the driver knows how to combine G, which means they release the brake pedal and carry speed into the corner, and also get back to Wide Open Throttle at the right point. A "T" shaped GG Plot means the drivers releases the brake pedal abruptly before adding steering input.
Knowing how to view the Friction Circle can dramatically help your data analysis skills. If you want to be a fast driver or an instructor, you need to know the Friction circle!
