More than 100 high school and community college students gathered at Base 11’s STEM Entrepreneur Summit on May 21 for an intensive day of training about launching their own businesses in STEM fields, science, technology, engineering and math.
The summit, held at the University of California, Irvine, began with a presentation – one usually reserved for chief executives – from bestseller Darren Hardy, and culminated with a casting director from ABC’s Shark Tank offering advice to students on their product pitches. In between, students had a lively Q&A with entrepreneurs and academics, and heard from UCI students whose invention landed them on a reality TV show.
