November 2019 - Padre Island National Seashore (PINS) was calling my name. The seas were in ice cream conditions (1 foot or less).
I launched into the surf with ease and headed to the targeted reef. Halfway to the reef, the fish were giving away their position crashing bait on the top. The adrenaline was pumping. Was this gonna be a day I'd never forget or a day where fish were active, but just not for my bait?
The fish were hungry - for everything I casted their way. Spoons, vertical jigs, topwater inshore lures...What an incredible day. I wish I had two cameras to capture the cast to net cycle.
Kink Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Red Snapper, Saltwater Catfish, Greater Barracuda, Cobia, Jellyfish and Triggerfish were all active and within inches of my kayak.
I kept some Smacks and the King I caught. They go very well with some Yum Yum sauce or Wow-Wee dipping sauce.
There were few human beings encountered but a lot of wildlife including many deer and coyotes.
If you head to this wonderful destination, grab some trash and help keep this place beautiful.
