Many Dysautonomia patients notice "Coat Hanger" Pain. This pain is characterized by suboccipital and paracervical pain in the neck and upper back. This seems to be mainly a problem in people who have difficulty maintaining their blood pressure when standing or upright. It is believed to be caused by poor blood flow to the upper neck and back.
Dysautonomias all involve the autonomic nervous system (ANS). When the ANS is not working properly, the blood flow pattern may be disrupted leading to pain.
