Askeladd from Vinland Saga is one of the more intriguing characters that I have come across recently. He fills the same role as some of my absolute favorite characters in fiction, such as the universally beloved Uncle Iroh: the father figure. He serves as mentor and guide for the series' protagonist, Thorfinn, but in a topsy-turvy way that deserves some further examination.
