Volcan Chaitén 1:37
On our final day driving the famous Carretera Austral we hike one of the continents most active Volcanoes. We summit to the smouldering crater of Chaiten in the rain and learn of its recent active history. We almost get caught in a landslide on our way up to the ferry terminal, just boarding our night ferry in time to the port town of Hornopirén.

After leaving the port we continue North to the small town of Ensenada on Lago Llanquihe. The following morning we explore the nearby Petrohué Falls, lying in the shadow of the looming Volcano Osorno. Afterwards we cross into Argentina via the scenic Andean Pass of Cardinal Antonio Samoré and the majestic Lake Nahuel Huapi before arriving in the resort town of San Carlos de Bariloche.

We spend a day exploring the Swiss/German inspired alpine resort town, known for its architecture, scenic surroundings, phenomenal chocolate production and amazing food, which we took full advantage of.
Circuito Chico & Los Siete Lagos 21:11
We head to the nearby Nuhuel Huapi National Park via the famous scenic Circuito Chico route. In the national park we hike through Patagonian Cypress forest up to Cerro Llao Llao for the most spectacular vista in the area. We have lunch at the famous Patagonia Cervecería before undertaking the scenic Siete Lagos (seven lakes) drive to the mountain town of San Martín de Los Andes.

We settle into our beautiful apartment before dinner at the most famous restaurant in town. We spend the following day exploring this charming alpine town, the perfect place to relax.

We say our final farewell to Argentina (for now) as we cross back into Chile via the Volcano Lanín. We take a short walk out via the Lagos Andinos trail to a nearby viewpoint of the volcano set among Araucania trees, filled with wild Parakeets. We arrive into the Pucón region where we spend the night by natural thermal springs, taking a dip at the Termas Los Pozones under the full moon.

Departing early we check out the best lakes and waterfalls of the Pucón region, starting with the expansive Lago Caburgua, followed by the tranquil pools and waterfalls of Los Ojos del Caburgua. After lunch we head out to 2 breathtaking waterfalls, Salto La China and Salto El Lèon. We spend our afternoon exploring the town of Pucón by the tranquil Lago Villarrica beneath the smouldering peak of South Americas most active Volcano Villarrica!
Join us in our next episode as we finish up our road trip in the Chilean capital of Santiago. After exploring the city we journey north via bus to the UNESCO town of Valparaiso on our journey up to the world’s highest and driest desert, the Atacama.
