Did you know it is mandatory for Ola and Uber cabs to have physical panic buttons? Well, on paper at least. After the Uber Rape case severely dented the company’s credibility in India, and the government tightening its claws around the cab aggregator industry, panic buttons were introduced in all cabs.
But as we set out to test the button, the ground report seemed starkly different. In a two part series, The Quint tells you if cabs in Delhi and Mumbai, have panic buttons, or not. For this experiment, our reporters in Delhi and in Mumbai, go around, hitch rides, talk to the cab drivers and also put the panic button to test. Besides, the physical panic button, they also test the in-app SOS button.
