Citrus is a tropical plant, and it loves humidity and water. You have to carefully balance under-watering and over-watering, but when growing in containers, it is hard to over-water!

Vacation: When unable to water for up to two weeks, keep your tree in a cooler spot with shade and drench the soil with water. If outdoors, keep a garden saucer under the pot filled with water. This will help your tree retain moisture for a longer period of time while it is not being watered. If this is not done, there is a great risk of the plant dying from dehydration.
Plants need different amounts of water, depending on their size and environmental conditions. When a tree is in hot, dry, windy conditions it needs more water. It also needs more water after being transplanted.
Physical examination: If your tree is underwatered, the leaves will droop and look sad and dry. They will perk up with more water. If your tree
is overwatered, the leaves will also wilt and look sad but the soil will be water logged. Let the water drain and water less in this situation.
