Cary Ramey's life almost ended two summers ago in an August car crash. His hand was pinned under the car and his thumb and index finger were crushed.
Two years later, Ramey decided to have a rare surgery where UAB surgeon Dr. James Long transplanted the second toe from Ramey's right foot into the thumb position on his left hand in a 13-hour surgery Aug. 24.
